BLACKPINK, TWICE face off in the new music award category of the AMAs 2022.

The American Music Awards is among the three most prestigious music awards in the United States, along with the Grammy Awards and the Billboard Music Awards. The 2022 AMAs will be held in Los Angeles on November 20 (US time).
This year, AMAs restored and created six new categories. The first time the AMAs have an award exclusively for Korean artists is called a “breakthrough” for K-pop by the music magazine Billboard (USA).
Commenting on the new category of the 2022 AMAs, ABC News explained: “the emergence of K-pop in the 21st century as a global phenomenon, making it Korea’s most prominent cultural product”.
Nominated for Favorite K-Pop Artist at the 2022 AMAs are groups BLACKPINK, BTS, Seventeen, Tomorrow x Together (TXT) and TWICE.
In addition, boy group BTS was also nominated in the Favorite Duo or Group category, where they had to compete with the world’s top names such as Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Maneskin and OneRepublic.
Last year, South Korean group BTS became the first Asian artist to win Artist of the Year – one of the most important awards of each AMAs.
