Ji Chang Wook’s ‘The Sound of Magic’ sets a new record, ‘storming’ in overseas markets.

According to statistics of the online content rating website Flix Patrol, the Korean drama The Sound of Magic has excellently topped the chart of Netflix’s popular TV shows in 15 countries worldwide. And ranked 5th in the overall ranking. This is the film’s best achievement to date.
Adapted from the webtoon of the same name by artist Ha Il Kwon, The Sound of Magic is a musical drama about what happens after the mysterious magician Ri Eul (Ji Chang Wook) suddenly appears in front of her. The girl who lost her dream Yoon Ah In (Choi Seong Eun), and her classmate were forced to dream about her Na Il Deung (Hwang In Yeop). The film was released through the Netflix platform in 190 countries worldwide on May 6.
The Sound of Magic is a unique film, different from other films because it was filmed in the form of a “musical” – a “rare hard to find” genre in Korean film projects. Director Kim Sung Yoon said that at first, he did not intend to make the film into a musical film but only wanted to use music to convey the character’s emotions to the audience.
While The Sound of Magic is not a movie intended to be made into a musical, this unique genre makes the film so successful overseas.
The Indian audience especially loves the film. India is the creator of Bollywood – a series of films that use a lot of music and dance elements to guide the atmosphere. The fact that people in this country love a movie with a musical twist is filled with catchy songs and choreography like The Sound of Magic is understandable. In The Sound of Magic, scenes of students dancing and singing together appear many times, which is said to be a critical factor in helping the film win the hearts of Indian viewers.
Also, according to the content announced by Flix Patrol, The Sound of Magic has topped the Top 10 most-watched TV shows in 15 out of 42 countries such as Bahrain, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Maldives, Oman, Pakistan, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Sri Lanka.
