SEOUL, Sept. 10, 2010 (Yonhap). iKON’s former leader was sentenced to a suspended sentence for drug abuse charges.
Kim Han-bin, also known as B.I., was sentenced by the Seoul Central District Court to three years imprisonment, with a suspended term of four years. He was required to perform 80 hours of community work and 40 hours of drug treatment.
He did not do it out of curiosity. The court stated that drug-related crimes committed by celebrities have a significant impact on society, particularly young people.
It noted that the artist, aged 25, showed remorse. His family members also said they would support him in his efforts to overcome the abuse.
B.I. was charged with purchasing illegal drugs including marijuana and LSD pills through a friend in April and May 2016, and then using some of them in violation of Narcotics Control Act.
He appealed to the court for leniency in his last statement to them last month.
He said Friday that he would try to forgive people who have hurt him.
Questions about his music future plans were not answered by him. He recently released an album and was featured in Lee Hi’s latest song.
Yang Hyun-suk, who was involved in a drug scandal, was forced to resign as CEO of YG Entertainment. YG Entertainment is home to iKON and other K-pop stars like BLACKPINK. B.I was also forced to leave iKON because of the scandal and his contract with YG was terminated.
