The announcement was made by BIFAN’s executive chairman, Shin Chul, adding a significant highlight to this year’s festival.

In conjunction with this honor, BIFAN will feature a special exhibit titled “Exceptional Son Ye-jin,” which celebrates Son’s illustrious 23-year acting career. This exhibit will include a variety of events designed to showcase her remarkable contributions to the film industry.

Previous honorees include distinguished actors such as Jeon Do-yeon, Jung Woo-sung, Kim Hye-soo, Sul Kyung-gu, and Choi Min-sik. This tradition continues with Son Ye-jin, whose extensive body of work and numerous accolades reflect her standing as one of Korea’s leading actresses.

Internationally, she has earned accolades such as Best Actress at the 51st Asia Pacific Film Festival for “April Snow” and at the 15th China Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival for “A Moment to Remember.”

BIFAN programmer Mo Eun-young lauded Son Ye-jin’s versatility and ability to transcend genre and form, describing her as “a representative actress of the 21st century with a unique charm through films and dramas.” Mo expressed confidence that the special exhibition would provide an insightful exploration into Son’s profound acting world, showcasing her depth and adaptability.

In response to the honor, Son Ye-jin expressed her profound gratitude. She remarked on how deeply honored she felt to be selected for this year’s special exhibition, following in the footsteps of respected seniors.
